We purchased a Nortel BCM50 in 1994 from Bell. 24 extensions, 7 PSTN lines, 1 fax line, 4 Remote call forward lines and a toll free number. We were paying between $800-1000/month for all the phone lines and long distance. We also have 4 seasonal personal properties which cost us roughly $200/month. We no longer have a maintenance contract on our BCM50. A year ago, the BCM50 started to act up. It would take 2-3 days to recover itself. Luckily we had old backup phones connected to the PSTN network allowing us to make and receive calls. We were not able to page or call extensions at this time. Service calls were VERY expensive. Along came UPhone.ca. We consolidated all our phones and save $800-$1000/month. We have 1 PSTN line as a backup. All other calls are handled by our PBX in the cloud. Extensions are “Followed-Me” to cell phones. We no longer pay extensive international cellular rates as we make calls through our VoIP phone system. All Smart phones have a VoIP app installed to send and receive calls when crossing the boarder. Just over 6 months of savings from moving away from Bell paid for all of our VoIP phones and network cable installation. We pay a very reasonable service contract fee with UPhone to do all the management of our cloud based PBX as well as our extensions. On top of all of this, UPhone was able to incorporate our old Valcom Intercom system into the VoIP system! More features, clearer phone calls, same extension and dialing codes, new phones and we are saving a substantial amount of money.
